Welcome to MYARS!
|
| Welcome to Maidstone YMCA Amateur Radio Society! |
Maidstone YMCA Amateur Radio Society has been established since 1937, and almost simultaneously has been affiliated to the Radio Society of Great Britain. The 'club' as it is known locally is based at the YMCA outstation facility in Tovil, Maidstone.

The club endeavours to cater for both its long-standing membership, and also new members that come along. MYARS offers training for the Foundation Licence scheme, and the club's QTH is an RSGB recognised examination facility. Course materials can be purchased from the Society, and people wanting to join the training course need only become a member. Our members all have a wide range of interests, across all parts of the radio spectrum, from HF to Microwave. All are enthusiastic about their area of expertise and more than willing to share it! Our doors are open from 1930h on a Friday evening, at the club QTH which is the YMCA Outstation, ME15 6FG. Address can be found on the Contact Us page, though for a bit of help if you're not familiar with the area, the 'How to Find Us' page will lend a hand. We invite all to come along to our meetings; long licensed, newly licensed, or the aspiring licensee; scanner enthusiasts, or Short Wave Listeners; members long since lapsed, or someone looking for a new 'home'. |

Good Morning, and Happy St George’s Day to you all,
Just a quick e-mail from me, with a few reminders;
1) Tomorrow’s meeting (24th April) we are joined by two special guests; Billy, the Black Labrador, will be bringing along Rob, to talk about Police Dogs.
2) Saturday and Sunday 9th/10th May, Henry M3IJJ and assorted others, will be activating Chegworth Watermill as GX3WM as part of Mills On The Air weekend. He says that members and friends are more than welcome to join him. This is not a contest, just an opportunity to have a good time and promote Amateur Radio while helping to preserve some of our heritage.
3) Friday 15th May is the next Junk Sale. Please tell as many local Amateurs as you can, the more people that turn up with Junk, looking for Junk, the more successful and enjoyable it is for everyone. Hopefully, I will speak to some of you on the Thursday evening net (details on http://www.g3trf.org), and see some more of you down at the club!

Hello good folks of the Amateur Radio fraternity! We're getting busy, down at the Maidstone YMCA Amateur Radio Society. Reports in from members that they're starting to see some better conditions on HF mean that folks are getting busy down on HF. Our current round of Intermediate trainees are getting busy with Howard G0RJN working toward their upgraded license. Ian M3ILL has been getting busy arranging things for the next Hope and Aid Direct convoy. And I've been busy too; with long days at work, and being preoccupied with Chloé. Hence you've not heard from me for sometime. But even without my waffle landing in your inbox, you can clearly see that things are running smoothly at the club, and that there are things going on to get involved in if you so desire. |

Hello folks, Now that the festivities of Christmas and the New Year are done, it's time to knuckle down to some radio! I walked in one Friday a couple of weeks ago, and it was DECIDEDLY radio-y! There were two (at least) homebrewed bits of kit being shown off/tested, a handheld being fiddled with/memories programmed, an antenna being built (a dead-easy Slim Jim type, which everyone should make if they're struggling with set-top rubber-ducks, and a bunch of conversations going on concerning different radio related topics! Bloody marvellous stuff. Made me feel very pleased to be part of a little club that keeps on going and going. Well done everyone. |
